The following is a description of the front brake disc of a motorcycle:

Structure and type
Overall structure: The front brake disc is usually a round metal disc, which is connected to the axle of the front wheel of the motorcycle and rotates synchronously with the wheel. The edge of the disc corresponds to the brake caliper. When braking, the brake pads in the caliper will tightly clamp the edge of the disc and achieve the braking effect through friction.

Type
Fixed disc: The entire brake disc surface is cut or stamped in one piece, with a simple structure and low cost. It is generally used for low-end motorcycles or models that do not require particularly high braking performance.

Floating disc: The inner disc part and the outer disc part are "tightly" linked by floating buckles. The inner ring is responsible for connecting the wheel hub, and the outer ring is embedded in the inner ring to be responsible for the friction of the brake. When braking, this disc can swing slightly due to thermal expansion, thereby forming the most suitable friction surface with the brake pads to maintain the stability of the brake. It is mostly used in high-performance motorcycles.

Material
Cast iron: low cost, good wear resistance, can withstand the test of frequent braking in daily riding, and provide reliable braking protection for riders, but the weight is relatively large, which will increase the unsprung mass of the vehicle.
Alloy steel: high strength, can remain stable when subjected to strong braking force, not easy to deform, and has good heat resistance and relatively light weight. It is a brake disc material with excellent performance and is often used in mid-to-high-end motorcycles.
Ceramic: has the advantages of high temperature resistance, low friction noise, excellent braking performance, but high cost, generally only used in some top high-performance motorcycles or high-end customized models.
Stainless steel: has good corrosion resistance, can maintain stable performance in various harsh environments, and has a more beautiful appearance, but the price is relatively high compared to ordinary steel.
Ordinary steel: has a certain degree of versatility, can meet basic braking needs, and is more affordable. It is more common on some entry-level or economical motorcycles.

Function
Braking function: It is a key component of the front brake system of a motorcycle. When the rider operates the brake handle, the brake oil pushes the piston in the caliper, so that the brake pad is tightly pressed against the disc. Through the friction between the disc and the brake pad, the rotational kinetic energy of the wheel is converted into heat energy, thereby achieving the purpose of deceleration or stopping.
Heat dissipation function: A large amount of heat will be generated during the braking process. The front brake disc usually adopts perforated, slotted or ventilated disc designs, which can increase air circulation, accelerate heat dissipation, and prevent the braking system from overheating and causing the braking performance to decline, that is, thermal decay.

Drainage function: When riding in rainy or humid environments, the holes or grooves on the disc can help quickly drain the accumulated water, so that the brake pad and the disc can have better contact, ensure that the braking performance is not affected by water, and improve the reliability of the brake.
Design features.

Punching design: It can speed up the heat dissipation and drainage speed, while reducing the weight of the disc and making the control more flexible. The size, number and distribution of the holes will vary according to the material, size and performance requirements of the disc.
Grooved design: There are grooves of various shapes on the surface of the disc, such as straight grooves, arc grooves, etc. These grooves can increase the friction between the brake pad and the disc, improve the braking effect, and also help to remove debris and dust generated during the braking process, keeping the disc surface clean.

Ventilation design: Ventilated disc brake discs have many circular ventilation holes drilled on the disc surface, or ventilation grooves cut on the end surface of the disc or prefabricated rectangular ventilation holes, which further enhance the heat dissipation effect and ensure that the brake system can still maintain good performance under high-load working conditions.
