Structural composition
Cross-axis universal joint: It consists of a cross shaft, a universal joint fork and a needle bearing. Needle bearings are installed on the four journals of the cross shaft, which are connected to the two universal joint forks respectively to achieve power transmission and angle changes.
Ball cage universal joint: It mainly includes a star sleeve (inner raceway), a spherical shell (outer raceway), a steel ball, a clamp, a dust cover and a retainer. The star sleeve is connected to the drive shaft, and has an internal spline inside and six arc grooves on the outside as the inner raceway of the steel ball. The inner surface of the spherical shell and the outer surface of the star sleeve form an outer raceway. After the two are assembled, six raceways are formed. Each raceway is equipped with a steel ball, and the retainer ensures that the steel ball is in the same horizontal plane.
Flexible universal joint: It mainly consists of rubber elastic elements (such as rubber discs, rubber blocks, rubber rings, rubber metal sleeves, etc.), bushings, bolts and centering devices.
Working principle
Cross-axis universal joint: When the driving shaft rotates, the driven shaft is driven to rotate through the cross shaft, and the cross shaft can swing in any direction around its own axis to adapt to the angle change between the two shafts. During the rotation process, the needle roller in the needle bearing can rotate to reduce friction.
Ball cage universal joint: The power is transmitted to the steel ball through the transmission shaft, and then transmitted to the spherical shell by the steel ball, and finally to the wheel. No matter how the angle between the two shafts changes, the steel ball is always located on the bisector of the angle between the two shafts, so as to ensure that the output shaft and the input shaft are always transmitted at the same instantaneous angular velocity.
Flexible universal joint: When the torque acts on the input shaft, the torque is transmitted to the rubber block through the input shaft, the three flanges on the universal joint fork and the connecting bolts, and then the rubber block acts on the universal joint flange on the output shaft. Because the rubber block is elastic, a certain angle between the two shafts is allowed.
Function
Realize variable angle power transmission: During the driving process of the motorcycle, the angle between the transmission shaft and the drive wheel will change continuously due to uneven road surface, steering and other reasons. The universal joint can smoothly transmit the power of the engine to the rear wheel at different angles to ensure the normal driving of the vehicle.
Compensation for wheelbase changes: When the suspension system of the motorcycle is working, the wheels will jump up and down, causing the distance between the drive shaft and the drive wheel to change. The universal joint can compensate for this wheelbase change to a certain extent, so that the power transmission is not affected.
